One of the primary reasons why patients come to our clinic is back pain.
It may commence as a niggle, progress gradually, or develop suddenly, causing a variety of limitations in your life.
At our clinic, we use exclusive manual therapies and the core control program as part of our treatment for back pain. This helps your back acquire the strength and capability to manage the daily pressures of life.
There can be various reasons why you experience back pain, and these causes may not be limited to your back alone. We aim to determine these causes, devise a treatment plan tailored to your condition, and help you resume the activities you desire without any pain.

Back Pain Treatment Telford
Midlands Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic provides physio care for lower back pain and proudly services the local Telford community.
Lower back pain is an extremely common condition with up to 80% of the population experiencing back pain at some time during the lives. Although the underlying pathology of low back pain is usually not serious, it is an important cause of pain in the community and has considerable impact on the economy due to time taken off work. Whilst the vast majority of patients with back pain will recover within 6 weeks, a small number will go on to develop chronic back pain and a gradual deterioration of functionality.
Causes of Back Pain
Most back pain is caused by irritation or poor function of the bones, joints, ligaments, or muscles in your back. Vertebral dysfunction, a prevalent condition that arises when the spinal vertebrae compress or irritate the sensitive nerve structures in your lower back, may be the root cause of such irritation.
Inflammatory arthritis (e.g., ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis), as well as fractures caused by osteoporosis, are other common causes of lower back pain. Additionally, back pain may be “referred” from another location.
Low back pain caused by cancer (usually originating from another source such as the prostate or lung), severe infections, and compression of the spinal cord are less frequent occurrences.

Assessment of Back Pain
Your Physiotherapist will perform a detailed history, orthopaedic, neurological and spinal examination to determine the exact cause of your lower back pain. Other tests including x-rays and digital scanning may also be recommended.
Treatment for Back Pain
The focus of physiotherapy treatment for low back pain is to restore function to spinal joints that are moving poorly, as well as to reduce muscle tension and increase muscle strength. This leads to improved movement, reduced pain, and decreased nerve irritation.
Therapies are tailored to the individual case, often involving spinal and soft tissue mobilisation, advice on core stabilisation, strengthening exercises, stretching, and heat/cold therapy. Please contact us to arrange your comprehensive lower back consultation, which will assist in identifying the precise cause of your back pain and starting a course of corrective treatment today!
