Is your back pain affecting many aspects of your life, your sleep, the activities that you love to do?
What is Back Pain?
At our clinic, back pain is one of the most frequent reasons for patient appointments.
Sometimes, it can begin as a minor discomfort, progress over time, or suddenly manifest, resulting in various limitations in your life.
At our clinic, we use exclusive manual therapies and the core control program as part of our treatment for back pain. This helps your back acquire the strength and capability to manage the daily pressures of life.
Sometimes your back pain can be due to any number of reasons, which aren’t actually specifically located in your back. It’s our job to determine what these factors are to make sure we create a treatment plan appropriate to your condition and get you better doing the things that you want to be doing.

Back Pain Treatment Birmingham
Midlands Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic provides physio care for lower back pain and proudly services the local Birmingham community.
Lower back pain is an extremely common condition with up to 80% of the population experiencing back pain at some time during the lives. Although the underlying pathology of low back pain is usually not serious, it is an important cause of pain in the community and has considerable impact on the economy due to time taken off work. Whilst the vast majority of patients with back pain will recover within 6 weeks, a small number will go on to develop chronic back pain and a gradual deterioration of functionality.
Causes of Back Pain
Most back pain is caused by irritation or poor function of the bones, joints, ligaments, or muscles in your back. Vertebral dysfunction, a prevalent condition that arises when the spinal vertebrae compress or irritate the sensitive nerve structures in your lower back, may be the root cause of such irritation.
Lower back pain can also result from inflammatory arthritis, such as ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as fractures caused by osteoporosis. Furthermore, back pain may be referred from another location.
Less common causes of low back pain include cancer (typically originating from another source, such as the prostate or lung), severe infections, and compression of the spinal cord.

Assessment of Back Pain
Your physiotherapist will perform a detailed history, orthopaedic, neurological, and spinal examination to identify the exact cause of your lower back pain. Other assessments, such as x-rays and digital scanning, may also be recommended.
Treatment for Back Pain
The physiotherapy treatment of low back pain concentrates on restoring function to spinal joints that are moving poorly, as well as reducing muscle tension and increasing muscle strength. As a result, there is improved movement, reduced pain, and decreased nerve irritation.
The treatments are customised to the individual case and generally consist of spinal and soft tissue mobilisation, advice on core stabilisation, strengthening exercises, stretching, and heat/cold therapy. Please get in touch with us to arrange your comprehensive lower back consultation, which will help identify the specific cause of your back pain and start a course of corrective treatment today!
