Back Pain Treatment Bromsgrove
Midlands Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic provides physio care for lower back pain and proudly services the local Bromsgrove community.
Back pain in the lower region is a highly prevalent condition, with as many as 80% of the population experiencing it at some stage in their life. Although the underlying pathology of low back pain is typically not severe, it is a significant source of pain in the community and has a substantial impact on the economy due to work absences. Although most patients recover from back pain within six weeks, a small number may develop chronic back pain and a gradual decline in function.
Causes of Back Pain
Most back pain is caused by irritation or poor function of the bones, joints, ligaments, or muscles in your back. Vertebral dysfunction, a prevalent condition that arises when the spinal vertebrae compress or irritate the sensitive nerve structures in your lower back, may be the root cause of such irritation.
Lower back pain can also result from inflammatory arthritis, such as ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as fractures caused by osteoporosis. Furthermore, back pain may be referred from another location.
Less common causes of low back pain include cancer (typically originating from another source, such as the prostate or lung), severe infections, and compression of the spinal cord.
Assessment of Back Pain
Your Physiotherapist will perform a detailed history, orthopaedic, neurological and spinal examination to determine the exact cause of your lower back pain. Other tests including x-rays and digital scanning may also be recommended.
