Back Pain Droitwich Spa
Is your back pain affecting multiple aspects of your life, such as your sleep and your ability to engage in activities that bring you joy?
What is Back Pain?
Back pain is one of the most common reasons that people attend our clinic.
It may commence as a niggle, progress gradually, or develop suddenly, causing a variety of limitations in your life.
Our method of treating back pain utilises special manual therapies and the core control program. This helps to ensure that your back has the strength and ability to withstand the strains of normal daily activities.
Occasionally, your back pain may be caused by several factors that are not specifically located in your back. Our responsibility is to identify these factors and develop a treatment plan suitable for your condition, allowing you to do the things you want to do without pain.

Back Pain Treatment Droitwich Spa
Midlands Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic provides physio care for lower back pain and proudly services the local Droitwich Spa community.
Lower back pain is a widespread condition, affecting up to 80% of the population at some stage in their lives. While the underlying pathology of low back pain is usually not severe, it is a significant cause of pain in the community and has a substantial impact on the economy due to time taken off work. Although most patients with back pain will recover within six weeks, a small number may develop chronic back pain and a gradual decline in function.
Causes of Back Pain
Back pain is usually caused by irritation or inadequate function of the bones, joints, ligaments, or muscles in your back. This irritation can be due to Vertebral dysfunction, a common condition that occurs when the spinal vertebrae compress or irritate the delicate nerve structures in your lower back.
Other causes of lower back pain include inflammatory arthritis (e.g. ankylosis spondylitis, Rheumatoid arthritis), and fractures due to osteoporosis. Back pain may also be ‘referred’ from another location.
Less common causes of low back pain include cancer (typically originating from another source, such as the prostate or lung), severe infections, and compression of the spinal cord.

Assessment of Back Pain
Your Physiotherapist will perform a detailed history, orthopaedic, neurological and spinal examination to determine the exact cause of your lower back pain. Other tests including x-rays and digital scanning may also be recommended.
Treatment for Back Pain
The focus of physiotherapy treatment for low back pain is to restore function to spinal joints that are moving poorly, as well as to reduce muscle tension and increase muscle strength. This leads to improved movement, reduced pain, and decreased nerve irritation.
Treatments are tailored to the individual case usually consisting of spinal and soft tissue mobilisation, core stabilisation advice, strengthening exercises, stretching and heat/cold therapy.
