Back Pain Stourport
Is your back pain impacting many areas of your life, including your sleep and your ability to participate in activities that you enjoy?
What is Back Pain?
Among the many reasons why people come to our clinic, back pain is one of the most common.
It can start as a minor discomfort, gradually worsen, or suddenly appear, causing an array of restrictions in your life.
Our way of treating back pain involves unique manual therapies and the core control program so that your back has the strength and ability to maintain the pressures of normal daily life.
Occasionally, your back pain may be caused by several factors that are not specifically located in your back. Our responsibility is to identify these factors and develop a treatment plan suitable for your condition, allowing you to do the things you want to do without pain.

Back Pain Treatment Stourport
Midlands Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic provides physio care for lower back pain and proudly services the local Stourport community.
Lower back pain is a widespread condition, affecting up to 80% of the population at some stage in their lives. While the underlying pathology of low back pain is usually not severe, it is a significant cause of pain in the community and has a substantial impact on the economy due to time taken off work. Although most patients with back pain will recover within six weeks, a small number may develop chronic back pain and a gradual decline in function.
Causes of Back Pain
Most causes of back pain are the result of irritation or poor function of the bones, joints, ligaments or muscles in your back. Such irritation can be the result of Vertebral dysfunction, a common condition that occurs when the spinal vertebrae compress or irritate the delicate nerve structures of your lower back.
Inflammatory arthritis (such as ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis) and fractures caused by osteoporosis are among the other causes of lower back pain. Additionally, back pain may be referred from other areas.
Less common conditions causing low back pain include cancer (usually from another source such as the prostate or lung), serious infections and compression of the spinal cord.

Assessment of Back Pain
Your physiotherapist will conduct a comprehensive examination of your history, orthopaedic, neurological, and spinal functions to determine the precise cause of your lower back pain. Additional assessments, such as x-rays and digital scans, may also be recommended.
Treatment for Back Pain
Physiotherapy treatment of low back pain focuses on restoring function to poorly moving spinal joints, as well as reducing muscle tension and increasing muscle strength. This results in improved movement, reduced pain and deceased nerve irritation.
Treatments are personalised to the individual case, generally comprising spinal and soft tissue mobilisation, core stabilisation guidance, strengthening exercises, stretching, and heat/cold therapy. Please get in touch with us to schedule your comprehensive lower back consultation to assist in identifying the exact cause of your back pain and commence a course of corrective treatment today!
